We are sharing with you our application - Bidbook "Moving Map", which we presented in Warsaw on October 26, 2023 during the pre-selection of the competition for the title of European Capital of Culture 2029. 12 cities decided to take part in the recruitment for the European Capital of Culture 2029: Bielsko-Biała, Bydgoszcz, Jastrzębie-Zdrój, Katowice, Kielce, Kołobrzeg, Lublin, Opole, Płock, Pszczyna, Rzeszów and Toruń. The expert panel selected four cities that advanced to the next stage of the competition: Katowice, Lublin, Bielsko-Biała and Kołobrzeg.
The motto of our application was "moving map". The cultural program of Rzeszów as the European Capital of Culture 2029 was related to threads corresponding to the concept of four types of symbolic "movements" in the spheres of attitudes and values. All of them directly affect the Rzeszów community and the city space, justifying the metaphor of the "moved map".

The European Capital of Culture is a project implemented and financed under the Creative Europe program. The title of European Capital of Culture was first awarded to Athens in 1985. The originator of the initiative and an active promoter of activities to protect cultural property was the Greek Minister of Culture, Melina Mercouri. From the beginning, the goals of awarding the title were to present and promote the cultural and artistic achievements of a given city on the international arena and to build a sense of belonging to the European cultural community, while caring for the preservation of diversity.
So far, the title of European Capital of Culture has been awarded to two Polish cities: Kraków in 2000 and Wrocław in 2016. Once again, Poland could submit its city to the competition in 2023, and the winner will organize events in 2029. The Polish city will share the title with Sweden. The winners become animators of cultural life throughout the EU for 12 months and present their offer and heritage on the international arena.
Rzeszów was one of twelve cities applying for the title of European Capital of Culture 2029. The preparation of Rzeszów's assumptions and application was handled by a specially appointed team of Rzeszów's cultural environment, cultural creators, animators and entrepreneurs, as well as employees of the Rzeszów City Hall, including Mayor Konrad Fiołek.
