We invite you to a meeting devoted to one of Jan Matejko's most enigmatic paintings, during which we will attempt to decipher the meanings hidden in the composition, full of symbolism and tension, featuring the figure of Wernyhora.

Confronting Jan Matejko's great historical machines is no small challenge! Therefore, we will begin with a work smaller in size, yet striking in its impact. Each figure has its own meaning, each face represents a different emotion, and at the foot of the composition, black and white engage in an eternal struggle. What will the legendary Wernyhora foretell this time?

The "Time of Art – Interpretations: Learning to Read Images" class is dedicated to the conscious perception of works of art and the interpretation of paintings. The program includes analysis of composition, symbolism, emotions captured in the painting, and historical context, enabling a better understanding of the message conveyed in the works. The analysis is based on examples of works and motifs present in the work of artists such as Jacek Malczewski, Władysław Podkowiński, Jan Matejko, Józef Pankiewicz, and Zofia Stryjeńska. The format of the meetings allows participants to develop the ability to independently "read" paintings and deepen their sensitivity to the language of art. The meetings will be led by charismatic art historian Jolanta Bobala, who will passionately and freely guide participants through the world of images, teaching them to look closely and discover their meanings independently.
