Józef Pankiewicz's portrait of a girl in a red dress, seemingly ordinary, attracts the eye and encourages us to discover what a child can tell us about herself and her era.

Two girls bid farewell to the 19th century in Polish painting – one with chrysanthemums, the other in a red dress. We will examine the latter, commissioned by her father, Józef Pankiewicz. It seems like nothing, a child standing by a chair, yet we cannot look away. What can we say about her, and what will she tell us about herself? Let's hear it.

The "Time of Art – Interpretations: Learning to Read Images" class is dedicated to the conscious perception of works of art and the interpretation of paintings. The program includes analysis of composition, symbolism, emotions captured in the painting, and historical context, enabling a better understanding of the message conveyed in the works. The analysis is based on examples of works and motifs present in the work of artists such as Jacek Malczewski, Władysław Podkowiński, Jan Matejko, Józef Pankiewicz, and Zofia Stryjeńska. The format of the meetings allows students to develop the ability to independently "read" paintings and deepen their sensitivity to the language of art.
