The first meeting will introduce participants to the art of reading images using the example of a Renaissance masterpiece.

Thanks to Christopher Nolan's "The Odyssey," mythological themes have once again become popular. If so, one of the most famous paintings in the world, Sandro Botticelli's "The Birth of Venus" from the Ufizzi in Florence, shouldn't pose any difficulties... unless we start looking more closely and asking questions. Because if it's "birth," why is Venus standing in a shell instead of jumping out of the sea foam? What is that tangle of figures on the left? And speaking of the Renaissance master's work, why is the water painted flat, as if by a small child? Let's try to see this painting anew.

As part of the next installment of Czas Sztuki (Time of Art), in addition to lectures, we offer painting-reading workshops. This time, we will examine the works of the world's most outstanding artists.

The "Czas Sztuki – Interpretacje" (Time of Art – Interpretations) classes are devoted to the conscious perception of works of art and the interpretation of paintings. The program includes analysis of composition, symbolism, emotions captured in the painting, and historical context, enabling a better understanding of the messages conveyed in the works.

Lecturer:
Jolanta Bobala - a graduate of art history at the Institute of Art History at the Jagiellonian University. She is interested in turn-of-the-century painting, photography, and methods of painting interpretation. She has published in "Szum" magazine. She collaborates with the Education Department of the National Museum in Krakow. She leads guided tours of Krakow and its museums as part of the Art to go! program.
