We invite you to a meeting devoted to Władysław Podkowiński's "Frenzy of Exultation," during which we will attempt to look at this controversial work without succumbing to the temptation of overinterpretation.
If any work of Polish art has caused a true, emotionally charged scandal, it was the canvas depicting a naked woman on a rampaging horse, titled "Frenzy of Exultation." Władysław Podkowiński had been returning to a similar motif for several years, but he managed to realize it in the final years of his dramatic life. How can you read "Madness" without being swept away by the darkness of overinterpretation? Oh, an exciting meeting awaits us!
The "Time of Art – Interpretations. Learning to Read Images" class is dedicated to the conscious perception of works of art and the interpretation of paintings. The program includes analysis of composition, symbolism, emotions captured in images, and historical context, enabling a better understanding of the messages conveyed within the works. The analysis is based on examples of works and motifs present in the work of artists such as Jacek Malczewski, Władysław Podkowiński, Jan Matejko, Józef Pankiewicz, and Zofia Stryjeńska. The format of the meetings allows for the development of independent "reading" skills and a deepening sensitivity to the language of art. The meetings will be led by charismatic art historian Jolanta Bobala, who will passionately and freely guide participants through the world of images, teaching them to look carefully and discover their meanings independently.
Host:
Jolanta Bobala - a graduate of art history at the Institute of Art History at the Jagiellonian University. She is interested in turn-of-the-century painting, photography, and methods of image interpretation. She has published in "Szum" Magazine. She collaborates with the Education Department of the National Museum in Krakow. She leads guided tours of Krakow and its museums as part of the Art to Go! program.
