We invite you to the second part of the "Time of Art" series, during which we will travel in time and space to discover fascinating, diverse faces of art. During the meetings, we will explore the stories of Polish artists whose work was inspired by travel, discover traces of exotic Japan in Polish art and look at the works of such figures as Frida Kahlo and Józef Mehoffer. There will also be an exploration of monumental works of academism and the genius of Michelangelo. Each meeting is a unique opportunity not only to get to know the works of art, but also to understand the context of their creation, learn about creative techniques and discover interesting facts about the artists and their times. The meetings will be led by experts in art history.

The idea for the novel "Quo Vadis" was born during Henryk Sienkiewicz's visit to Rome, during which the writer's guide around the eternal city was the academic painter Henryk Siemiradzki. In the lecture, we will talk about the friendship of these two artists and about selected paintings by the painter (e.g. "Pochodnie Nerona" and "Dirce chrześcijańska") showing scenes from the life and martyrdom of the first Christians. What are the possible connections between Siemiradzki's paintings and Sienkiewicz's novel? After all, these works were created in parallel, at the same time. What were the differences and similarities in the approach to ancient themes by both artists? Did the work of one influence the work of the other in any way? Finally, how were their achievements received by the audience? You will learn about all this from the next lecture in the series "Time for Art" in Piwnice Rzeszowskie. The lecture will be given by Rev. Dr. Paweł Batory, director of the Diocesan Museum in Rzeszów.

Paweł Batory - born in 1979, comes from Gorlice (Lesser Poland Province). Priest of the Rzeszów diocese, art historian, doctor of art sciences, director of the Diocesan Museum in Rzeszów and Diocesan Conservator of Monuments, lecturer of art history at the University of Rzeszów and the Higher Seminary, member of the Association of Art Historians, the Rajsze Association and the Polish Council of Christians and Jews.
