We invite you to a discussion about one of Jacek Malczewski's most moving early works, in which we will attempt to capture the sources of its extraordinary power.

A supine blond beauty and a grieving man. "Ellenai's Death," painted by the young Jacek Malczewski, still makes a stunning impression on viewers visiting the Cloth Hall. What makes this work impossible to ignore? The perfection of the craft? The beauty of the figures? An elegiac mood? We will attempt to discover the keys to the most complete understanding of the famous Symbolist's early masterpiece.

The "Time of Art – Interpretations. Learning to Read Images" class is dedicated to the conscious perception of works of art and the interpretation of paintings. The program includes analysis of composition, symbolism, emotions captured in the painting, and historical context, enabling a better understanding of the message conveyed in the works. The analysis is based on examples of works and motifs present in the work of artists such as Jacek Malczewski, Władysław Podkowiński, Jan Matejko, Józef Pankiewicz, and Zofia Stryjeńska. The format of the meetings allows for the development of independent "reading" of paintings and a deepening sensitivity to the language of art. The meetings will be led by charismatic art historian Jolanta Bobala, who will passionately and confidently guide participants through the world of paintings, teaching them to look closely and discover their meanings independently.
