PROJECT CATEGORY – PERFORMING ARTS

Rzeźbiary is a performative archive of female bonds and individuality. The authors, following in the footsteps of the pioneers of 19th-century sculpture and the sisterhood that unites them, raise their own bodies to the podium as objects of mutual creation. They publicly recall the work of international, less recognizable artists, including Tola Certowicz, Hélène Bertaux, Antonina Rożniatowska, Maria Gerson-Dąbrowska, Jadwiga Łubieńska.

This is an invitation to experience sculpture through the prism of choreography. This duet, based on dialogue and a shared rhythm, is a continuous attempt to formulate the social status of female relationships. The live, supra-individual corporeal statue mixes a sense of agency and (in)dependence, gymnastics and eroticism.
The work was created at the invitation of the National Museum in Warsaw, as an event accompanying the exhibition Bez corsetu, Camille Claudel i polskie 19 wieku [Without a corset, Camille Claudel and Polish 19th-century female sculptors].
"Rzeźbiary" is a kind of temporary, corporeal exhibition. This is how the creators think about choreography - as a socio-cultural archive that can restore public memory, in this case the memory of the art of female sculpture.
