The lecture, led by Dorota Rucka-Marmaj, will be an opportunity to discover the diverse forms and meanings of landscape in art from the Renaissance to the modern period.
The lecture focuses on landscape painting as a distinct painting genre. A wide selection of diverse visions of nature will be presented, a painting motif that was an attractive proposition for collectors in the early modern period. Interestingly, the subject matter and character of the paintings were adapted to the tastes of the audience. We will stroll through landscape settings with their numerous variations: staffage, realistic-idealistic, vedute, and marina.
We will consider the issue of assimilation in culture and art, which led to the blending of styles, motifs, and forms. Consequently, differences faded in favor of universal paradigms.
Using selected examples from 17th- and 18th-century painting, we will see the significant transformations taking place in various artistic centers and which centers were at the forefront at the time.
