Creative inspirations: ICON – SPIRITUAL BEAUTY – icon painting workshops

The "Icon – spiritual beauty" workshops are an opportunity to discover the world of icon painting. The aim of the classes is not only to present the rich history of this type of art, but also to explore the secrets of painting techniques and various types of iconographic representations that have inspired and delighted for centuries.
Participants will have the opportunity to take on the challenge of creating a Face in the Byzantine style. The classes will begin with a pencil sketch, where step by step they will learn the key principles of facial proportions on an icon. The classes are intended both for those who are just starting their adventure with icon painting and for those who want to deepen their knowledge.
The workshops will be divided into two parts: theoretical, in which participants will take part in a lecture, and practical, where they will learn how to draw icons in the Byzantine style. Additionally, during the classes they will have the opportunity to work with metal, making so-called assists, i.e. delicate lines emphasizing the spiritual glow of icons.
The workshops will be led by Elżbieta Wojtaszek, an experienced artist who passionately shares her knowledge and love for iconographic art.
"Creative inspirations" is a new series of art workshops for adults, which will take you to the world of creativity and handicraft. Meetings will be held once a month, on selected Sundays, until June. This will be a great opportunity to inspire each other and discover various forms of art together. The workshops will be led by true enthusiasts - experienced educators and artists who will be happy to share their knowledge and experience. Each meeting is an opportunity to express yourself through creative activities, which will also stimulate further artistic exploration.
Meet the host:
Elżbieta Wojtaszek – for five years she has been painting icons and paintings with the Krakow group of Icon Writers Lumen operating at the Association of Sacred Art Creators "Ecclesia". She learned the basics of icon painting and egg tempera technique in the studio of Father Zygfryd Kot SJ. In the studio, in addition to icons, she also paints paintings based on Old Masters: Gothic, Renaissance art, Netherlandish painting. Together with the Lumen Group, she has participated in many exhibitions - the latest exhibition at the Krypta u Pijarów Gallery in Krakow, but also exhibitions in Nowy Sącz, the Municipal Art Gallery in Zakopane and annually in Krakow, as part of Cracovia Sacra. She was a co-leader of workshops at the Małopolska Cultural Center "Sokół" in Nowy Sącz during the Culture of Regions Congress in 2022.
