Czas Sztuki – is back! From November to April, every other Tuesday, we invite you to meetings with art! This series of lectures, which begins on November 5, is a real treat for all art lovers – both for those who are just discovering its richness and for enthusiasts who want to deepen their knowledge. The schedule of the second semester will appear in January 2025.

On the occasion of International Holocaust Remembrance Day, we will take a closer look at Holocaust memorials and their presence in artistic reflection. Starting from a rather perverse postmodernist definition of a place of remembrance, we will devote our attention to both existing arrangements and projects that were never implemented, led by Oskar Hansen's innovative vision, which aroused both recognition and consternation among those at the time. We will focus on various manifestations of artistic activity related to places of remembrance - in themselves and in isolation from them. We will compare the unambiguous monument of Treblinka with the deconstructive monument of Peter Eisenman in Berlin. We will compare typical forms of expression with controversial works, such as Lego blocks by Zbigniew Libera. And all this against the background of the unabated debate on what kind of art places of remembrance really need. The lecture will be led by Dr. Anna Stróż Pawłowska.

Anna Stróż-Pawłowska - PhD in art history, academic teacher, researcher, as well as museum curator and tourist guide. Initially associated with the Catholic University of Lublin and the Higher School of Humanities and Natural Sciences in Podkowa Leśna, later a scholarship holder and implementer of a research grant at the University of Cologne. She served as the director and then – after the institution became independent – director of the Ulma Family Museum in Markowa. For several years she has been working at the Pilecki Institute in Warsaw, where she first headed the department implementing the Called by Name program, and currently is implementing an original project devoted to places of remembrance of the Holocaust.
