During the meeting, participants will learn to interpret emotions, symbols, and hidden meanings using the example of Johannes Vermeer's painting "Girl Reading a Letter at an Open Window."

We still don't know more about Johannes Vermeer than we do. The list of works unanimously considered his is also subject to change. The subjects of the Dutchman's paintings, seemingly ordinary people performing simple tasks in typical bourgeois interiors, often turn out to play interpretive tricks on us, the viewers. So how should we look at the painting "Girl Reading a Letter" from the Dresden Gallery without missing its true intention? We will attempt to solve this mystery during our December meeting.

As part of the next installment of Czas Sztuki (Time of Art), in addition to lectures, we offer painting-reading workshops. This time, we will examine the works of the world's most outstanding artists.

The "Czas Sztuki – Interpretacje" (Time of Art – Interpretations) classes are devoted to the conscious perception of works of art and the interpretation of paintings. The program includes analysis of composition, symbolism, emotions captured in the painting, and historical context, enabling a better understanding of the messages conveyed in the works.

Lecturer:
Jolanta Bobala - a graduate of art history at the Institute of Art History at the Jagiellonian University. She is interested in turn-of-the-century painting, photography, and methods of painting interpretation. She has published in "Szum" magazine. She collaborates with the Education Department of the National Museum in Krakow. She leads guided tours of Krakow and its museums as part of the Art to go! program.
