Did you know that one of the legends of Rzeszów refers to the croaking of frogs?
At the exhibition, you will see a toad, which occurs naturally in these areas and refers to the legend of the croaking ground - the place from which the city took its name.
"A long time ago, between two ancient forests, on a hillock stood a castle built of large wooden logs, surrounded by water and an immense forest. A brave prince ruled there. The reason for his concern was the evil that appeared in the forest swamps, near the castle. The first to meet him was the prince's wife, who had disappeared without a trace in the wilderness during a hunt, along with a large retinue. At that time, a shadow of sadness and fear fell on the inhabitants. The prince sent warriors and volunteers to deal with the new poverty, but they too disappeared in the forest. Finally, the prince decided to go to the marshes and find his wife. Early in the morning, just before dawn, he entered the darkness of the forest. When he reached the marsh, he heard an omnipresent croaking. The prince carefully entered the water, and then hundreds of frogs began to jump at him, and their collective croaking was stunning. "Run, run, run!" they squawked. "Run!" Every legend has a grain of truth. Before it became a city, Rzeszów was surrounded by swamps, marshes and intersected by numerous streams, and from the east flowed the meandering Wisłok. The marshy area was later used to plan the city's fortifications, which helped in its defense. The entire legend is available during the tour along the "Interactive Legend" path.
